Sprint Triathlon for Myeloma

In honor of Amy Bailey

I met Amy in our first class on our first day of our Masters in Social Work program at CSU Sacramento. What followed that first day was a year of hilarity, as she and I dazzled our shared thesis advisor with our mad research analysis skills; adventure, as we found our way in our shared internship as School Social Workers; and a shared celebration in South Side Park as we finished our year as MSW's and lifelong friends.

What followed that year has been 20+ years of friendship. And through all the years and across all the miles in between, Amy has remained in the very special place in my heart where she arrived the first year we met. She has always been a source of amazement for me. Her quiet strength, her calm and thoughtful approach, her unwavering faith, and her dedication to social justice inspire me and everyone who knows her.

Almost 3 years ago Amy was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. This is a rare blood cancer that affects the plasma cells. As of now, there is no cure for this cancer. Which is why continued research and development are crucial. Lives depend on it.

I can't do anything to change Amy's situation, obviously. But I can swim, cycle and run. It is therefore my privilege to do a
sprint triathlon on July 12th to raise money for the International Myeloma Foundation, an organization that is very important to Amy. Please consider donating to the IMF, for Amy and for all those with Multiple Myeloma.
